Master of Optometry, Behavioural Optometrist & Orthokeratologist
Gary has been practicing optometry for over 25 years. After graduating as a Bachelor of Optometry at UNSW, he worked with experienced optometrists throughout Sydney. He then decided to open up his own practice in the Central Coast, later Wahroonga and then Mosman. In 2010, he created the Smart Vision Optometry Group and associated with Thompson, Larter & Associates Behavioural Optometrists granting them permission to use his proprietary processes of the Smart Vision Optometry Group, opening another practice in Bondi Beach in 2014. Gary studied a Post Graduate Certificate of Behavioural Optometry, in which he achieved a high distinction, and a Post Graduate Certificate of Ocular Therapy, having recently completed a Master’s Degree in Optometry. He is a member of both the Australasian College of Behavioural Optometrists and Optometry Australia. Gary has a special interest in children’s vision, sports vision and visual performance.

Jacquie graduated from the UNSW with a Bachelor of Optometry (honours) in 1989 and has completed the Behavioural component of her Master’s Degree in Optometry. She has worked in independent private practices in Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs and the North Shore as well as in public research facilities. She is highly experienced in general practice with a particular emphasis on contact lenses and management of diabetic retinopathy and glaucoma. In addition, Jacquie has a personal and professional interest in children’s development. She is passionate about providing solutions to help them reach their learning potential. Jacquie is a member of Optometry Australia and the Australasian College of Behavioural Optometrists, having joined the Smart Vision Group in 2013.
Therapeutically Endorsed Optometrist
Megan graduated with honours as an Optometrist from the University of New South Wales. She completed a double degree in Bachelor of Optometry and Bachelor of Science, and is currently undertaking a Masters of Optometry. She is a qualified ophthalmic medicines prescriber and a founding member of the Young Optometrists group. Megan has been awarded the Luxottica Prize for Ocular Therapeutics, the CooperVision Australia Prize in Optometry and the Alcon Vision Care Australia Prize for contact lenses. She has helped to organise and participated in various charity events for Optometry Giving Sight, a global fundraising initiative that targets the prevention of blindness and impaired vision. With a particular interest for children’s vision and ocular therapeutics, Megan joined the team at Smart Vision in 2016.
Justine Shaw studied through the Australasian College of Behavioural Optometrists and is an accredited vision therapist. She is also a graduate of the University of Wollongong with a Bachelor of Arts majoring in Psychology, as well as a Diploma in Psychology. Justine has had a varied career thus far, importantly including work facilitating support groups for individuals with bipolar disorders, acquired brain injuries and children with autism spectrum disorders. She is passionate about working with children and loves nothing more than to hear that the children she works with are gaining both confidence and ability in terms of their vision skills at home and at school. Justine excels in creating a welcoming, safe and fun environment for her patients to learn, grow and perform to potential.
Carole has been a qualified dispensing optician for over 25 years, having spent eight years on the Australian Association of Dispensing Opticians Council. She is currently a member of the Australasian Dispensing Opticians Association (ADOA), where she plays an active role. Carole joined Thompson, Larter & Associates in 1989, having partnered with Graeme Thompson and Sue Larter in 2002. Ten years later, she associated with Gary Rodney and Andrew Lowe and joined the Smart Vision Group with Thompson and Larter. Carole’s professional interests include independent boutique frames for adults and children, individual lens design technology to tailor lenses around the patients’ lifestyle, sports eyewear, marketing and business management.
Andrew has been a qualified optical dispenser for over 25 years and is a Member of ADOA. He has also worked in the industry as an accomplished key account manager in optical wholesale. In 2004, Andrew started at Thompson, Larter & Associates and, eight years later, joined the Smart Vision Group with Thompson and Larter in association with Gary Rodney and Carole Macdonald. Andrew focuses on design and fashion and his professional interests include innovative high-tech features to produce corrective lenses, active vision for sports enthusiasts, sunglasses (cosmetic protection for eyes, offering reliable glare and UV protection), and cutting-edge product solutions, including the highest precision in lenses and eyewear.
A new entry into the optical industry, Brian has previously graduated with a Bachelor in Industrial Design. With a new passion for optics and optical dispensing, he has joined the team at Smart Vision Optometry as a trainee optical dispenser. Brian’s professional interests include independent frame design, frame fitting and ergonomics surrounding spectacles, lens mechanics and materials, and new technologies surrounding optics and the eye.
